So, you’ve just fitted your new BerleyPro Visor to your Lowrance sounder — smart move. You’ll be getting better visibility with reduced glare, and added protection from spray and rain. But if you’ve noticed the original Lowrance sun/dust cover is now harder to remove, you’re not alone.
This isn’t an issue for all Lowrance units — only certain models where the dust cover is designed to pop off from the sides rather than from the top or bottom.
What’s the Problem? #
Some Lowrance models use side-mounted locking tabs to keep the cover securely attached. These tabs are designed to click firmly into the side of the unit to stop the cover flying off when you’re on the move. But once you fit a BerleyPro visor, it can make it tricky to grip and remove that cover as intended.

The Simple Fix #
No need to wrestle with it every time — there’s an easy solution that keeps your cover secure and makes it easier to remove.
All you need is a piece of 250–320 grit sandpaper. Gently sand down the locking tabs on the dust cover — not the unit — reducing the size by about half.

Pro Tip: Go slow. Sand a little at a time, test the fit, and repeat until you’ve got the right balance between snug and manageable.
Will It Still Stay On? #
Yes. With your BerleyPro Visor in place, the cover is already shielded from wind and rain. As long as you don’t overdo the sanding, the cover will still grip firmly and won’t budge during transit.
Back on the Water #
This tweak takes just a few minutes but makes life a lot easier. You’ll still get full protection for your sounder, and you won’t have to fight your gear at the end of a long day on the water.
